How Pen Vaporizers Work

Pen Vaporizers are gaining more and more momentum in the smoking industry but very few people know how they actually work!  There are Two types of Pen vaporizers Dry herb and Oil/ Wax pen vaporizers we will go through the differences here.

Oil/ Wax Pen vaporizer:
These vaporizer pens use wax and oil concentrates that has a special heating element that holds these waxes and oils. These vaporizer pens feature a specialized cartridge near the heating coil made specifically for the purpose of of heating up both wax and oil elements.

Dry Herb Vaporizers:
Dry Herb Pens are only for dry herbs, do not use Oil or wax in it otherwise it will completely ruin the herb. The Heating Coil is just below the dry herbs which brings it to the temperature of vaporization. If there is combustion in some of these vaporizers just simply put a pipe screen between the coil and the herb and it will get into the temperature range required for vaporization.

Anatomy of Vaporizers :
The Anatomy of how pen vaporizers work comes down to several different parts. How each one works differs slightly from one pen vaporizer to the next. We will start off with the most common parts that are integral to the vaporizer.

Heating Coil/ Element:
The Heating element can be made up of several different materials, however it usually consists of a heating element that supports a coil on top. Now each heating element differs from one to the other in the way that it is constructed. The Heating element is usually supported by a coil at the top. Some vaporizers come with the glass or metal filter while others do not. It is usually a good idea to make sure you put a filter in, either with a cheap metal pipe filter that you maybe bought from the store or a more expensive glass filter. It is important to have some sort of filter on top of the heating coil as this helps insure that vaporization takes place otherwise it just burns the herb or oil/ wax.
The Chamber/ the Chamber Connector:
The Chamber is where you put your materials be it oil’s waxes or herbs, this is where you start seeing diversity among vaporizers as some are designed differently than others. Because vaporizers need a small bit of airflow to allow you to suck in vapors but cannot have any air escape the designs start to differ.

The Mouthpiece:
The Mouthpieces  come in many different shapes, some round some are more square, some of the holes are bigger and some smaller.  Some Mouthpieces get better airflow than others but what is important is that there is a filter that is connected to the mouthpiece, especially dry herbs so that no herbal material goes flying into your mouth when vaporizing! Another important thing to remember is that the longer the mouthpiece is the more time the vapor has to cool off when inhaling.

Battery:
The Battery just like any household appliance is an integral part to the workings of a pen vaporizer. These batteries differ from vape to vape, some have a really long life but an exceptionally long charge time while others are the opposite and well some have a really crappy charging time and battery life so make sure to do some research as to which vapes have a good quality battery in them. Most vape pen batteries are lithium-ion because of their cost efficiency and the fact that you can recharge them over and over also makes them appealing.
